Winter Session starts Nov 16

Stage is set for the winter session of Parliament after Cabinet committee on Parliamentary affairs meet; Centre sets 16th of November as the date for the start of month-long winter session; Session likely to prove crucial for implementation of the Goods and Services Tax.

The month-long Winter Session of Parliament is set to begin from 16th of next month and will conclude on 16th December.

The Winter Session dates have been advanced as in the past it was normally convened in the third or fourth week of November.

An early session may help the Central GST and Integrated GST legislations, which will pave way for the Goods and Services Tax , to be approved within November or latest by early December.

Besides legislations relating to GST, nearly 15 new bills are likely to be introduced.

The government would also push for the passage of the ordinance which seeks to amend the Enemy Property Act.

The last monsoon session was relatively smooth and productive – compared to previous sessions.
