Indian Designers Shine at the 97th Academy Awards
The 97th Academy Awards were not just a celebration of cinema but also a showcase of high fashion, with Indian designers making a strong impression on the red carpet and at after-parties.
Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, turned heads in a striking red saree by Sabyasachi, pairing it with an exquisite statement necklace and earrings from Sabyasachi High Jewellery.
Adding to the presence of Indian couture at the event, Thai singer and actress Lalisa Manoban wore a sleek black tonal leotard from Rahul Mishra’s Spring Couture 2025 collection, ‘Gaian Genesis,’ during her Oscars performance.
Filmmaker Karan Johar also made waves at the Vanity Fair Oscars party, opting for an all-black, sharply tailored suit by Gaurav Gupta. A behind-the-scenes video shared by Diet Sabya on Instagram captured Johar’s meticulous preparations for the event. Later, he maintained his sophisticated aesthetic with another all-black ensemble, accented with gold details for a touch of opulence.
The evening saw Anora emerge as the biggest winner, securing five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Sean Baker, and Best Actress for Mikey Madison. Despite Demi Moore’s strong awards season run with The Substance, it was Madison’s performance in Anora that earned her the top honor.
