Naeem Khan Born and brought up in Mumbai, Naeem Khan moved to the U.S. as a teen. The Indian-American designer is known for his ornate and intricately detailed gowns, clean, elegant and timeless silhouettes. He launched his eponymous label in 2003. Khan’s designs are popular with former First Lady Michelle Obama, Beyoncé, and the late Elizabeth Taylor. Bibhu Mohapatra He catapulted to fame when Michelle Obama wore his design on an official visit to India in 2015. The New York-based designer from Rourkela in Odisha launched Bibhu Mohapatra – Purple Label in 2009. He has helped traditional weavers of Odisha by designing a collection of hand woven silks. Her design draws inspiration from Indian heritage and the vibrancy of her Manhattan lifestyle. Trivedi’s style features hand embroidered brocade and georgette combined with leather. Rachel Roy The Indian origin designer launched her label — RACHEL Rachel Roy collection in 2009. It is an affordable line comprising sportswear, shoes, and accessories. She has dressed the likes of Michelle Obama, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Kim Kardashian and many others. Parna Ghose She is known for her fusion fashion line Pure Elegance. She blends trends with tradition to make ethnic fashion relevant among the international audience. Her designs are fresh, vibrant, while the fabrics are rich and craftsmanship is flawless with attention to detail. Mac Duggal The Indian-American designer based in Chicago came to US when he was 23. He has 12 lines to his credit known for its sophisticated and contemporary design aesthetic. The designer’s style is timeless with feminine detailing, modern sensibility. Premal Badiani The couturier has revolutionized American couture with her distinctive glam quotient, Indian and contemporary silhouettes, exquisite craftsmanship. Badiani’s style reflects bygone techniques rooted in her heritage and textile legacy. Shivani Jain Gurgaon-based designer Shivani Jain made waves at New York Fashion Week in February. Her collection titled Moonlight was feminine, edgy, sophisticated, fun and no-fuss. Jain’s use of ruffles in workwear is effortless style. Purvi Doshi The Gujarat-based designer uses handmade and handcrafted fabrics, organic colors to create sustainable, responsible and cruelty free fashion. Her eponymous label was launched with an aim to create better livelihoods for women in 1992. Vaishali Shadangule Mumbai-based designer and her label Vaishali S is known for its authentic work. Success has not come easily to her. She fled home at the age of 18 to avoid marriage. Prarthana Kovet, the designer’s brand, was much talked about at the New York Fashion Week for its elegant silhouettes and interesting techniques. The Spring Summer 2018 collection that she showcased was young and feminine. Prarthana’s women are both sensual and classy. |
