Gala Inaugural of 28th Kolkata International Film Festival by Big B
The 28th Kolkata International Film Festival began with a dashing event featuring megastar Amitabh Bachchan inaugurating the weeklong festival by lighting the traditional lamp. The inaugural function was a glamor show of the who’s who of Bollywood, with stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Jaya Bachchan, and veteran director Mahesh Bhatt attending.
Along with the celebrities, state delegates like West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly, and veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha attended the event at Netaji Indoor Stadium, in Kolkata.
The film festival will show 183 films between December 16 and 22. In his speech Amitabh Bachchan thanked the City of Joy for giving him the opportunity to find his first job. He mentioned subjects like pre-independence censorship and films on communal harmony.
The festival’s inaugural film was “Abhimaan,” the 70s super hit featuring Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan as the leading pair. There will also be a special exhibition on the life and contributions of Big B.
