Editorial October 2016
Dear Readers,
Happy Festival Season! This is our favorite time of year, and how can it not be?! The dancing, delicious foods, and great company of family and friends! Even more so, it’s a time for reflection on the year past, and the one ahead.
Many of you no doubt have fond memories of how you celebrated this time in India, Pakistan, or the West Indies. Celebrating here in the United States may not feel the same, but with an ever-changing community, we are coming pretty close! Community groups are coming together to not only keep the festive spirit alive, but also maintain traditions.
In this issue, we share articles about ways in which we can keep traditions and be festive during this time here in our adopted homeland. And of course, who can forget the food! Learn more about foods that are a part of important festivals.
Last month, we held our 2nd Annual Desh Videsh Media Group Community Leader Awards Gala in South Florida. At the Gala, we recognized six amazing individuals with a special community leader award. Each awardee has spent an enormous amount of time on community services and bringing the positives of our community to the forefront. On behalf of the entire Desh-Videsh Media Group team, I once again congratulate this esteemed group. On behalf on the local South Asian community, I would like to thank these fine individuals who have taken time from their busy schedules to focus on strengthening our community.
And last, but definitely not least, Desh Videsh Media Group wishes all of our readers, vendors, and community members a very festive holiday season. We wish you all a Happy Diwali, and to all of our Gujarati readers, a Happy New Year!
