July 2015
Dear Readers,
This is one of my favorite issues of the year. I know it seems like I say that a lot, but really, this is one of my favorite issues! This time of year, we celebrate the many accomplishments of our youth. Young South Asians, whether in grade school, college, or part of the working world, are making names for themselves in virtually every field.
Just as we did this time last year, we congratulate the winners of the Scripps National Spelling Bee and the National Geographic Bee (all Indian!) for their hardearned achievements. It’s not surprising given that our community values hard work and ambition. Learn more about these special individuals as well as about why there is a tendency for South Asians to do well in these types of competitions.
We also celebrate the hard work of youth right here in our own backyard. So many high school students from our community were recognized as Valedictorians and Salutatorians – an accomplishment that comes only after much hard work and perseverance. Congratulations to all 2015 graduates from the Desh-Videsh team. We wish you much success in college and careers ahead. And we especially look forward to hearing about more great things to come.
Finally, we are in the midst of planning for the MyShadi Bridal Expo in Orlando on September 20, 2015. Orlando is our best of the best show with over 200 vendor booths, and this year, we’re excited about a new addition – a destination wedding pavilion! Many couples now choose to get married away from home, be it an exotic locale or just a fun destination where guests and the couple alike can enjoy. The Orlando Bridal Expo will feature a special section just for vendors who specialize in destination weddings, making planning that much easier.
As always, we welcome feedback, so please feel free to send comments, suggestions, and questions to info@deshvidesh.com.
Happy Reading!
