Vikrant Massey Announces Break from Acting Amid Career Success

Vikrant Massey, who was recently honored with the Indian Film Personality of the Year award at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on November 28, announced that he would take a break from acting. In a heartfelt post on Instagram, the 37-year-old actor, known for his roles in films like 12th Fail, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba (2024), Sector 36 (2024), and The Sabarmati Report (2024), expressed that the time had come for him to “recalibrate” and focus on family and personal growth. His announcement surprised many of his fans, as he is considered to be at the peak of his career, enjoying widespread appreciation for his recent performances.

His role in The Sabarmati Report, based on the 2002 Godhra train incident, has been particularly well-received, with the film becoming tax-free in several states. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the film for shedding light on a contentious historical event, emphasizing that the truth would eventually prevail.

Despite his growing popularity, some fans have expressed disappointment over Massey’s involvement in The Sabarmati Report, speculating that his political views might be shifting towards the right-wing. This came after an apology he posted earlier this year for a controversial tweet regarding the 2018 Kathua rape and murder case.

Massey’s decision to take a break follows years of acclaimed performances and marked a pivotal moment in his career. Known for his versatility, he has portrayed relatable and sensitive characters in projects like A Death in the Gunj (2017) and Chhapaak (2020). In his acceptance speech at IFFI 2024, he reflected on his journey, stating that he chooses scripts that allow him to give a voice to ordinary people and their stories.

Though his fans may find his hiatus sudden, the actor’s message in a recent video—“I have many talents, and there’s still a lot to do”—suggests that this is not the end, but rather a pause in his evolving journey.
