Gadar 2 Surpasses Pathaan, Emerges as Highest-Earning Hindi Film Ever
Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel made their fans eagerly await the sequel to Gadar for over 21 years. The film finally hit screens in August 2023 and received an overwhelming response from the audience, dominating the box office. Gadar 2 not only shattered multiple records but also achieved the status of the highest-grossing Hindi film ever, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan in lifetime collections. Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh shared the film’s box office figures week by week. Taran Adarsh’s post revealed that Gadar 2 has currently amassed $62.98 million, slightly surpassing Pathaan’s $62.95 million. In its seventh week until Wednesday, Gadar 2 collected an additional $0.33 million. However, despite securing the top position, this accomplishment may be short-lived. Another Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Jawan, is closing in on Gadar 2’s record as the highest-grossing Hindi film. Jawan’s current domestic box office collection stands at $62.36 million and is anticipated to surpass Gadar 2’s earnings by the upcoming weekend. About Gadar 2: Directed and produced by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2: The Katha Continues serves as the sequel to the 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The film features Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma reprising their roles from the original movie. The sequel picks up the story of Tara Singh and Sakina after Independence. When their son is imprisoned in Pakistan during the ‘Crush India’ campaign in 1971, Tara Singh has no choice but to travel to the neighboring country to rescue his son.
