Editorial March 2021
Dear Readers,
Spring is my most favorite season of the year. Not because it is the season for rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection and regrowth nor is it because it is the favorite season of 36% of Americans (per Gallup poll results). It is not even because spring brings the best weather in Florida. But really, it is my favorite season because my birthday is in the Spring! Enough about me, let’s discuss the rebirth that happens when couples marry and begin a new journey in life together! As you probably guessed, this month’s Desh-Videsh is a wedding resources issue. Every four months, it brings me joy and excitement to talk about newlyweds because weddings bring two soul mates and two families together. Usually I quote something from Hindu scripture when we talk about weddings, but today let me share a quote from a Christian scripture, 1 Corinthians 13.4-7 for newlyweds who are in love with each other or give commitment to love each other for the rest of their life. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Similarly 1. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 reminds us “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow.” If you think about it, these messages are no different than the Saptapadi taken from Hindu scripture. These are universal messages to love, respect and support each other. And these universal messages are not limited to only newlyweds, they are for everyone, and they are even more important as we begin to recover from the horrible COVID-19 pandemic. Let me come back to the current wedding issue before somebody recruits me for a preacher position! In this issue, we feature six real weddings including the wedding of Varun Dhavan, one of Bollywood’s hottest heroes. I am so excited to share these stories, especially since some of you took a bold step and got married during the pandemic while following CDC guidelines. On behalf of the entire team at Desh-Videsh Media Group, I would like to congratulate you all! This issue also features floral decor by Nikun Events in our Must Have Photo Moments section. And as I said earlier about the universal message of love, flowers are universal symbols of a new beginning, beauty, joy, prosperity and auspicious blessings of love, regardless of religion or country. As you know, we publish wedding issues for two reasons: one to congratulate newlyweds by covering their love story along with their beautiful pictures; and two, to give ideas and inspiration to the couples who are planning their weddings in the near future. In talking with our wedding vendors who will be a part of MyShadi Bridal Expo in Orlando on May 23, 2021 at the Hilton Orlando, we are finding out that a record number of couples are planning weddings in 2021 and early 2022. Similarly a record number of couples are registering to attend this bridal show. So if you are a wedding professional and you have not reserved a booth or an advertisement in our Bridal Expo Wedding Resource Guide, please visit www.myshadibridalexpo.com for an opportunity to reach hundreds of brides, grooms and their families. If you or your loved one is getting married, please visit www.myshadibridalexpo.com to register to attend and avoid long lines on the day of the show. Until then, be safe and be well! Raj Shah |
