Scientists ask WHO to recognize airborne transmission of Coronavirus

Researchers noted that studies have shown that “beyond any reasonable doubt” viruses of covid-19 have the ability to  travel a dozen meters per area.

A group of 239 international scientists have urged authorities, including the World Health Organization (WHO), to recognize that the coronavirus can be transmitted by area and urged that the health directives be reviewed.

According to a publication in the Oxford Clinical Infectious Diseases academic journal, the researchers noted that studies have shown that “beyond any reasonable doubt” viruses can travel a dozen meters per area route, and that some events have shown that This statement is true in the case of SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19.

So far, WHO and national authorities estimate that the main route of transmission of COVID-19 is saliva droplets projected by coughing, sneezing, or speech. They also mention drops that remain on surfaces for hours or even days.

“Hand washing and social distancing are appropriate, but according to our point of view, they are insufficient to provide protection against micro-drops loaded with viruses that are released into the environment by infected people,” wrote the experts in the study led by Lidia Morawska from Queensland University of Technology.

Among the main recommendations of the academics is to establish greater ventilation for closed spaces, the installation of more efficient air filters and ultraviolet lamps, and to avoid a large amount of crowd in buildings and public transport.
