Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shetty’s Simmba gives audience a Mass HeroRohit Shetty’s Simmba is actually a mix of Dabangg and Singham to some extent, but what it leaves audiences with is a mass hero to love in form of Ranveer Singh. It is a remake of Telugu blockbuster Temper. Ranveer Singh plays ACP Sangram Bhalerao aka Simmba, who is colorfully and happily corrupt. And the first half of the film is all about how he is happy to align himself with the antagonist, Durwa Ranade (Sonu Sood). The second half of the film takes a different turn as Simmba gets involved in a rape-revenge drama, thus making him explore the right side of the law. The last Bollywood release of the year, Simmba got a lot of mixed reviews from the critics, who panned the story but praised Ranveer’s approach to the character and its mass appeal. Speaking of the Box Office, Simmba got Ranveer the biggest opening of his career by raking Rs 20 crore and Rs 24 crore on its first two days respectively. Simmba has even surpassed opening day record of Ranveer’s earlier film, Padmaavat. Apart from Ranveer Singh, the film also stars Sara Ali Khan, Ashutosh Rana, and Ajay Devgan. |
Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero Fails to Entice AudienceOne of the most awaited films of 2018, Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero was released on December 21. The film also stars actress Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead role. SRK’s dream project, which has been jointly produced by Colour Yellow Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment’s Gauri Khan, has not left much impact on the box office. The story revolved around 38-year-old Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), a vertically challenged man from Meerut and his attempts to find love. He falls in love with a scientist Aafia Bhinder (Anushka Sharma), who has cerebral palsy. But as he sets his heart on marrying her, he meets Babita Kumari (Katrina Kaif), a leading superstar. And, thus begins the twist and turns of an unusual love triangle. The film turned out to be an ambitious project that failed to deliver on many levels, even with its stellar cast. Most critics and viewers panned the film’s second half, calling it aimless and lost. It was praised for its inspiring concept and storyline, featuring a vertically challenged man, who is definitely a larger-than-life character. While the film has got mixed reviews from the critics, its box office story is a sad tale. The film that was made on the budget of Rs. 200 crore, collected Rs. 20.14 crore on its first day. Zero’s first weekend earning at domestic box office was Rs. 59.07 crore. |
